VCSO INVESTIGATING DEATH OF VOLUSIA COUNTY BRANCH JAIL INMATE

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a Volusia County Branch Jail inmate who was reported to have attempted suicide earlier this week.

Desiree McFarlane, 36 (DOB 11/3/1980), was pronounced dead today at Halifax Health Medical Center, where she was taken Sunday after she was discovered unresponsive in a jail shower around 6:30 p.m. First responders performed CPR on her at the jail before she was rushed to the hospital.

This afternoon, the medical examiner notified the Sheriff's Office Major Case Unit of McFarlane's death. Detectives are investigating, and no further details are available at this time.
