PEDESTRIAN HIT BY VCSO PATROL VEHICLE IN TUESDAY NIGHT CRASH

A Volusia County sheriff’s deputy was involved in a vehicle-vs.-pedestrian crash tonight in the Ormond Beach area, and the pedestrian was in critical but stable condition later at a local hospital.

The crash happened around 7:26 p.m. on the 1900 block of Hand Avenue. The pedestrian, a 38-year-old female, was transported to Florida Hospital and later transferred to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, where she was listed in critical but stable condition at 9 p.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, and any additional initial details about the circumstances will be released at the determination of FHP.

The deputy, who is 21 years old and was hired in 2017, is being placed on administrative leave with pay, which is standard.
