Explosion Reported Following Oak Hill Argument; Suspect Sought

EXPLOSION REPORTED FOLLOWING OAK HILL ARGUMENT; SUSPECT SOUGHT

Today, Volusia County sheriff’s deputies, detectives and members of the VCSO Bomb Squad and SWAT team responded to 372 Beehive Drive, Oak Hill, after a report of an explosion.

According to initial information gathered at the scene, a resident of the home was involved in a domestic argument and threatened to set off some type of explosive device.

Deputies learned Phoenix was upset because he was being evicted from a shed on the property, and during a verbal dispute he threatened to blow up the house and everyone in it. He then armed himself with a pipe bomb, lit the fuse and went inside the house. Phoenix then threw the pipe bomb out the door and into the yard, where it detonated.

The defendant in this case, Troy William Phoenix (DOB 11/23/1982) will be facing charges of possession/discharge of a destructive device, possession/manufacture of explosives and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

No one was injured in the explosion, and Phoenix was not immediately located. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 386-248-1777.
