Bicyclist Killed In DeBary Crash

Update 1/13/19: The deceased in last night's bicycle crash is David M. Newland (DOB 1/23/1958). He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Alcohol use by Newland is considered to be a factor in the accident. He was not wearing a helmet or reflective clothing. 

There were no other injuries. The other driver involved remained on scene, showed no signs of impairment and cooperated fully with the investigation.

 BICYCLIST KILLED IN DEBARY CRASH

A 60-year-old man was killed when his bicycle hit a vehicle in DeBary on Saturday night.

The crash happened around 8:24 p.m. on Charles R. Beall Boulevard at Palmira Road. The bicyclist was traveling west on Palmira Road when he turned onto Charles R. Beall and hit the passenger side front of a northbound Ram truck. The driver was unable to change lanes in time to avoid impact with the bicycle.

The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
