PUBLIX SHOPPER’S CAR STOLEN WITH PET DOG INSIDE
Victim’s Vehicle Was Left Running With Keys in Ignition

A Deltona man returning a shopping cart Sunday after shopping at a Deltona Publix had an unpleasant shock as he returned to his parked car: His blue 2017 Kia Forte was driving away -- with his 15-year-old Chihuahua Roxie inside.

The theft occurred shortly before noon Sunday at Publix, 2100 Saxon Blvd. #A, just after the 63-year-old victim had purchased groceries and loaded them in his car. The Deltona resident’s car was parked near the liquor section of the store. He left his vehicle running with the keys in the ignition and returned the cart. As the victim returned to his parking spot, he saw his vehicle with Florida license tag DMWN47 exiting the parking lot.

The car turned left onto West Finnland Drive going south, then turned left onto Fairhaven Street before its owner lost sight of the vehicle. The car has dark tinted windows. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office needs the public’s help to find this stolen vehicle and Roxie.

If anyone sees this vehicle or the dog, call 911 or the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at (386) 248-1777 regarding this auto theft (case #19-9173).
