Case update (10/27/24):
A Port Orange man was fatally shot Saturday evening when he drove his truck at two people during a neighborhood altercation.
Volusia sheriff’s detectives responded to the shooting reported around 7:40 p.m. on Jackson Lane, off Tomoka Farms Road west of Port Orange. The shooter and witnesses remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. The deceased was found in the driver’s seat of his pickup when deputies arrived.
The following is a brief summary of the findings of the initial investigation.
Detectives learned the driver, identified as 47-year-old Marcus Blicker, started following and erratically swerving at 2 vehicles (driven by a neighbor’s son and his friend) after they drove past his house in their vehicles. The son called his father and told him he was being followed. When they got to the house, Blicker pulled in too, yelling and threatening the two drivers.
The father came outside armed with a rifle, told Blicker to leave, and fired warning shots in the air. Blicker’s truck reversed for a moment, then sped forward toward the father and another person who was standing nearby. The father fired several shots at the truck as it drove at them, and the truck came to a stop in the front yard.
The incident was captured on video and audio recordings, which supported the shooter’s and witnesses’ accounts.
Shell casings were collected, the scene was processed, and the Medical Examiner responded to take custody of Blicker’s body for an autopsy. His next of kin was notified on scene.
A Rottweiler dog in Blicker's truck was injured during the shooting but is expected to recover. Volusia County Animal Services responded and transported the dog for veterinary care.
There are no criminal charges against the shooter at this time. The investigation is active and ongoing.
