Detectives investigating fatal stabbing in DeLand area

Deputies responded to a stabbing tonight in the southwest DeLand area, with one adult male victim stabbed by an unknown suspect.

The incident was reported around 8:34 p.m. in the area of West Beresford Road and South High Street off SR 15A.

The victim was pronounced deceased by paramedics on scene.

Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances and canvassing for evidence. At this time, no suspect is in custody. Additional updates will be provided as they become available for release.

Update: The deceased is identified as John J. Strobel, 55, who lived in a camp near the area of the incident. The homicide investigation is active and continuing today (Friday).
