A fraud victim’s quick action and deputies’ swift response Wednesday night led to $8,000 being recovered.
The 74-year-old victim was contacted by someone impersonating her bank and was instructed to withdraw $8,000 for a courier pickup. Upon realizing she had been scammed, the victim contacted law enforcement and provided the courier’s tag number to Sgt. Leven who was able to track down the drop-off location. Surveillance video showed the courier handing the package to 25-year-old Amoye Jameison of Jamaica.
Jamieson was charged with Organized Scheme to Defraud and Grand Theft and is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail without bond. ICE was contacted as Jameison is in the country on an expired visa.
The $8,000 belonging to the victim was returned. Great job to District 1 deputies and the Financial Crimes Unit!
