NEW SMYRNA BEACH MAN ARRESTED FOR POSSESSING CHILD PORN

A 33-year-old New Smyrna Beach man is in custody today following his arrest on 15 counts of possession of child pornography, two days after sheriff’s detectives received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Jonathan Erb (DOB 8/11/84) was arrested Friday night as detectives were conducting surveillance and located him at a McDonald’s in New Smyrna Beach.  When he arrived, Erb was arrested for driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana, then transported to the Sheriff’s Operations Center for further questioning.

Detectives discovered numerous pornographic images and videos in Erb’s possession that depict female children who appeared to be between 4 and 9 years old. A search warrant was executed to examine his cellphone during the investigation.  Erb admitted to manufacturing child porn and identified a young child depicted in a sexually explicit photograph that was taken in New Hampshire in 2017.  He also admitted to having multiple videos of child porn on his cellphone.

So far, the investigation has not led detectives to identify any local child victims. But anyone who has information that may identify a potential victim is asked to contact the VCSO Child Exploitation Unit at 386-254-1537. Erb remains held at the Volusia County Branch Jail with bail set at $78,000.
