PORT ORANGE POLICE DEPARTMENT HONORS PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY

Beginning in 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day. This date serves as the centerpiece of what is now known as National Police Week. Each year, thousands of current and former law enforcement officers and family members travel to Washington D.C. to honor those officers who died in the line of duty. During this same week, similar events of remembrance are held throughout the nation. This is a time to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice as well as show appreciation for those who continue to put on a uniform to protect and serve.         

We at the Port Orange Police Department would like to bring recognition to this week and thank all the men and women who have served or continue to serve. Additionally, to the family members who must carry additional burdens or make sacrifices because of the demands of the profession of policing, we offer to you our most heartfelt thank you!
