In separate incident, VCSO deputies investigate another discovery of ammunition at Pine Ridge High School in Deltona

A 13-year-old student at Taylor Middle-High School in Pierson was arrested today after several students heard him say he was going to bring a gun to school and shoot people.

The DeLeon Springs teenager was arrested at 2:21 p.m. Tuesday on a felony charge of threatening to discharge a destructive device. He told a school resource deputy he has been bullied and that he might bring a gun to school someday.

In another incident Tuesday, Volusia County sheriff’s deputies investigated at Pine Ridge High School in Deltona after learning that a .22-caliber bullet had been found in a boys weightlifting locker room bathroom. The source of the ammunition is unknown at this time. The discovery was the second time ammunition has been found at Pine Ridge High. On Thursday, two bullets were found stuck in between mats in the weight room, but no weapons were found.

Since the school shooting in South Florida last week, three Volusia County students have been arrested in school-related incidents. On Friday, Volusia County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 14-year-old student at Heritage Middle School in Deltona for making statements in class about blowing up and shooting up his classroom. He was charged with making a false report of a bomb, a felony, and disrupting a school function.

DeLand police also charged a student Tuesday with disrupting a school function after he came to school with a cell phone case that closely resembled a handgun, prompting a lockdown of DeLand High School.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said the Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate all reports of threats and little tolerance will be shown for jokes or making false threats. Anyone who sees suspicious activity that might indicate potential violence is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 911 in an emergency or the non-emergency line at (386) 248-1777.
