Suspect Charged With Attempted 2nd-Degree Murder After Stabbing In Deltona

SUSPECT CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED 2ND-DEGREE MURDER AFTER STABBING IN DELTONA

 A suspect was in custody within minutes of a Monday night stabbing in Deltona that began as a family argument and ended with a charge of attempted second-degree murder. The victim was taken to an area hospital with critical injuries.
 
David A. Ramsey, 47, of Geneva, was taken into custody around 11:56 p.m. on the 600 block of Hartley Avenue in Deltona, about 22 minutes after the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting the stabbing at 600 E. Normandy Blvd. 
 
Witnesses told responding deputies a fight broke out after an argument between Ramsey and his cousin by marriage, 47-year-old Joseph Whitmer, also of Geneva. Ramsey punched Whitmer in the face. Whitmer threw a chair at Ramsey. The altercation moved outside, where Ramsey stabbed Whitmer multiple times with a knife.
 
Whitmer was transported in critical condition to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford. He remained critical there today.
 
Ramsey was also taken to the hospital after complaining of chest pains following his apprehension by a Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, which tracked him into a heavily wooded area. He was treated at the hospital, released and taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail on the attempted second-degree murder charge as well as charges of battery and violation of parole. He is in custody there without bond.
