Volusia County Sheriff’s investigators have obtained an arrest warrant in this morning’s robbery of a Kangaroo store in Deltona after identifying the suspect from fingerprints left behind on the stick-up note.

The suspect passed a note to the 28-year-old female clerk on duty at the time demanding money and threatening to shoot the clerk if she didn’t comply. While a gun wasn’t seen, the clerk said the suspect -- identified as 24-year-old Dennes Gutierrez-Fernandez (see attached photo) -- kept his hands in a jacket pocket that had a bulge showing what appeared to be the grip of a gun. Fearing for her life, the clerk handed over the drawer to the cash register and the suspect grabbed money and then fled out of the store. But he left behind the key piece of evidence that linked him to the crime.

Investigators have obtained an arrest warrant charging Gutierrez-Fernandez (DOB: 12/19/92) with armed robbery and written threats to kill or do bodily injury. While investigators haven’t found a permanent address for the suspect, he’s known to have ties to the Polk County area. Anyone who spots Gutierrez-Fernandez or has information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (386) 943-8276 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at (888) 277-TIPS. Information also can be submitted by downloading the smartphone app from the Crime Stoppers web site (http://www.westopcrime.com/).
