Deputies To Take Part In Coffee With A Cop Events Next Week

DEPUTIES TO TAKE PART IN COFFEE WITH A COP EVENTS NEXT WEEK

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood came into office earlier this month promising that the Sheriff’s Office would engage with the community, listen to concerns and work with residents to identify and fulfill their public safety needs.

Next week, residents will have two opportunities to provide their feedback to deputies in a relaxed and informal setting designed to maintain open lines of communication and foster a greater understanding between the citizens and police. It’s called Coffee With A Cop, and the Sheriff’s Office will be hosting events on Monday in DeLeon Springs and Wednesday in Oak Hill. For law enforcement, it’s a way to connect with the community, answer questions and hear first-hand from residents about public safety issues. It’s also part of a five-point pledge -- including a pledge to community engagement -- that Sheriff Chitwood rolled out before taking office. The pledge to community engagement includes interacting with all of the diverse facets of the county, building community trust and working to evaluate and meet the needs of the public. “Block by block, neighborhood by neighborhood, city by city, we’re going to improve the quality of life of our residents -- with residents at the table, telling us how they want us to do it…..,” Sheriff Chitwood said during his Jan. 3 swearing-in ceremony.

As always, Coffee With A Cop promises coffee and casual conversation, with no agendas or speeches -- just a chance to ask questions, discuss issues of concern and get to know local officers. The details are as follows:
