'Find My iPad' App Leads Deputies To Suspect Who Ransacked House, Stole Guns

‘FIND MY IPAD’ APP LEADS DEPUTIES TO SUSPECT WHO RANSACKED HOUSE, STOLE GUNS

An iPad stolen from a shopper at a Deltona Publix led Volusia County sheriff’s deputies straight to the thief – and solved another case, too, when they found him carrying stolen jewelry and wearing a stolen pair of sneakers.

The arrest Sunday of 28-year-old Raymond Ingberg (DOB 2/22/1989) came less than an hour after he victimized someone who tried to help him.

Ingberg was outside the Publix on Elkcam Boulevard shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday when he met a shopper who asked him if he was hungry and offered to buy him food. When the shopper went inside the store, he mistakenly left his iPad Mini on the sidewalk near Ingberg. By the time he came back out, Ingberg and the iPad were gone.

Using the “Find my iPad” app, the victim tracked the device to an address on Covington Drive, where deputies soon were knocking on the door. The resident there explained Ingberg had just stopped by and asked if he could keep an iPad at the house.

Not far away, deputies spotted Ingberg walking down the road, and stopped to talk to him.

Meanwhile, deputies were responding to another call in Deltona – a break-in on Otis Avenue where the back door was kicked in and the house ransacked. The victim came home around 4 p.m. to discover the burglary. The items stolen included five guns, two watches including a Rolex, other jewelry, electronics and a pair of white Jordan sneakers. The burglar even left behind his black boots when he put on the white Jordans.

The deputies out with Ingberg on the street noted he was wearing a pair of white Jordan sneakers. They also discovered a large amount of jewelry and electronics connected to the burglary on Otis. Ingberg then led deputies to a wooded area where he hid a green duffel bag containing five stolen firearms, including an SKS-style rifle described by the victim of the burglary.

He was placed under arrest at 4:49 p.m. and charged with armed burglary, two counts of grand theft and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He remained held in the Volusia County Branch Jail on Monday on $55,000 bail.
