PEDESTRIAN KILLED OVERNIGHT IN DELTONA CRASH

A pedestrian was killed late Wednesday in a crash in Deltona.

Deputies responded to the area of 2740 Doyle Road after the crash was reported around 11:22 p.m. Their preliminary investigation revealed a red Dodge Caravan driven by 37-year-old Larissa Zellerkraut of Deltona struck the pedestrian, 70-year-old Isaias Padilla Hernandez of Deltona, as he crossed the road.

Hernandez was crossing from the south to the north in an unlit area, and he was in the eastbound lane when he was struck. Zellerkraut attempted to swerve toward the center line to miss him, but Hernandez was hit by the passenger side of the van.

There were no indications Zellerkraut was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. She and two other passengers in the van were not injured.

Doyle Road was shut down for 5 hours during the crash investigation.
