SUSPECT ARRESTED IN WOODS AFTER GUNPOINT ROBBERY OF DELTONA RESTAURANT EMPLOYEE

A suspect in the armed robbery of an employee leaving a Chinese restaurant in Deltona on Thursday night was tracked down within an hour – taken into custody in a swampy, wooded area where deputies also found cash floating in the water around him.

The robbery was reported around 9:45 p.m. Thursday at the China Kitchen restaurant at 915 Doyle Road. The victim told deputies an unknown suspect pointed a gun at her head and robbed her while she was leaving work. She said the suspect stole her backpack, which she said held $5,000 in bundled cash from the business, as well as her cell phone, keys and a wallet containing more cash.

The victim said the suspect took off running after snatching the backpack, got on a bicycle and pedaled away. The victim’s husband chased the suspect to the nearby Edgewater Condominiums, then lost sight of him.

Deputies set up a perimeter in the area and were joined by a DeLand Police Department K-9 unit and the Alert 1 helicopter from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. Alert 1 was able to guide units on the ground to a suspect in the woods. The search team pushed through heavy vegetation and swampy terrain to reach the suspect.

That suspect, 33-year-old Tyron Conquest (DOB 11/22/1984) of Deltona, was charged with robbery with a deadly weapon, grand theft, possession of a weapon/ammunition by a convicted felon and resisting arrest without violence.

In the same area where they found Conquest and other items, deputies also recovered a handgun loaded with eight 9mm rounds. About $3,000 in cash was recovered.

Conquest was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he was being held Friday on $81,000 total bond.
