EDGEWATER MAN, 52, FACES 30 COUNTS OF POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

An Edgewater resident has been arrested and charged with 30 counts of possessing sexually explicit images of children on his computer following an investigation by sheriff’s detectives. 

William Thorne, 52, (DOB: 12/12/1965) of 2167 Mango Tree Drive was arrested Thursday on a warrant by Edgewater police after detectives in the sheriff’s sex crimes unit executed a search warrant at Thorne’s home on April 24.

Detectives launched this investigation after receiving a tip in January from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which alerts law enforcement to reports of sexual exploitation of children on the Internet. During their search of Thorne’s home, detectives found pornographic images on his computer portraying girls ranging in age from 5-9.

Edgewater police arrested Thorne on his VCSO warrant Thursday morning. He remains in the Volusia County jail on $300,000 bail -- $10,000 per count.
