UPDATE: VIDEO: Serial Convenience-Store Robber In Deltona Identified, Arrested

Update 5/8/19: After further investigation and execution of a search warrant yesterday, Volusia County sheriff’s detectives have charged 26-year-old Trey Brown (DOB 4/11/1993) in a total of four robbery cases in Deltona.

The first recent robbery happened around 2:30 a.m. Feb. 8 at the 7-Eleven at 839 DeBary Ave. in Deltona. In that robbery, an employee said the suspect implied he had a weapon and said “Do you want to die? I’ll cut you,” while demanding money from the registers.

That was followed by another robbery around 4 a.m. Feb. 23 at the Cumberland Farms at 1251 Providence Blvd. in Deltona. The clerk at the register said the suspect implied he had a weapon and said “Don’t make me do it,” while demanding cash from the register.

A third robbery happened around 3:40 a.m. March 11 at the Circle K at 1712 Doyle Road in Deltona. The clerk said the suspect had his hands down the front of his pants and acted as if he was concealing a gun while demanding money.

The most recent robbery was this week, when a suspect again entered the 7-Eleven store at 839 DeBary Ave. in Deltona, brandished a screwdriver and demanded money from the register.

In each case, the suspect was wearing black running shoes with a white emblem on the heel, and a T-shirt wrapped around his face.

An analyst at the VCSO’s Volusia County Crime Center recognized similarities between these robberies and a January 2018 convenience-store robbery in DeBary, where the robber had a T-shirt wrapped around his head. Trey Brown was arrested in that case, adjudicated guilty, sentenced to probation and placed on house arrest.

On Tuesday, Detectives visited the area of Brown’s home address (542 Galloway Ave., Deltona, which is less than 2 miles away from each of the stores robbed) and noticed a pair of black running shoes on the back porch of the house. After receiving permission from Brown’s mother to enter the house and yard, detectives confirmed the shoes were the exact same style shoe seen on surveillance images of the suspect in each robbery case. In the last robbery, surveillance footage showed the left shoe was untied and the right shoe was tied. The same was true of the shoes found on the porch. And when Brown arrived at the house a short time later, he was wearing a black necklace that matched the one seen on surveillance footage from the most recent robbery.

A search warrant at the house resulted in the recovery of several pieces of clothing that matched the clothes worn in this week’s robbery. Also recovered were seven 9mm rounds, one .38 special round, an Airsoft handgun, a box for a BB gun and several other items.

Brown is now charged with four counts of armed robbery, three counts of wearing a mask while committing a robbery, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and violation of probation on his previous armed robbery conviction.

Additional charges are expected in other jurisdictions as detectives believe Brown is responsible for at least two other robberies in Seminole County.

Update 5/7/19: Volusia County sheriff’s detectives have identified 26-year-old Trey Corneleus Devon Brown (DOB 4/11/1993) of Deltona as the suspect in this week’s Deltona 7-Eleven robbery. Brown is currently under arrest in that case as detectives continue to investigate his involvement in other cases. There are several active cases in Volusia and Seminole counties in which he is a suspect or person of interest.

Brown was last in the news in Volusia County in August 2018, when DNA evidence found on a discarded Orlando Magic cap linked him to a January 2018 armed robbery at a DeBary convenience store. He was adjudicated guilty in that case and sentenced to probation, and remains on active felony probation for armed robbery to this day.

Brown was also previously sentenced to about 2 years in prison for a 2009 robbery in Orange County.

Additional updates are anticipated as the VCSO investigation continues.

PUBLIC’S HELP SOUGHT IN IDENTIFYING SERIAL ROBBERY SUSPECT IN DELTONA

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a serial convenience-store robbery suspect.

The same suspect is believed to be responsible for four robberies at 24-hour stores in the south end of Deltona since February, plus possibly two more in Seminole County. In each case, the suspect either brandished a weapon or implied he had one. 

The latest incident occurred around 2 a.m. this morning at the 7-Eleven at 839 DeBary Ave., Deltona. It’s believed to be the second time the same suspect robbed that store.

The other robberies in Volusia County occurred at a Circle K store 1712 Doyle Road and a Cumberland Farms store at 1251 Providence Blvd. No injuries were reported in these cases.

After each robbery, it’s believed the suspect left the store on foot. It’s unknown at this time if he eventually entered a vehicle or if he remained on foot.

The suspect is described as a black male between 17 to 25 years of age, with a thin build, 5’8” to 6’0” and 140 to 170 pounds. Several photos from surveillance cameras are attached.
