2 SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN DELAND COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
Thieves Steal $14,000 From ATM; More Cases Pending

Two arrests have been made in a DeLand commercial burglary in which suspects broke into an ATM, stealing more than $14,000, and sheriff’s detectives hope to link the pair to three other similar burglaries.

Volusia County sheriff’s deputies were called to a burglary in progress on June 21 at the Winners Circle, 1250 S. State Road 15A, just before 3 a.m. Thieves had smashed a glass window of the business and used power tools to break into the ATM. The suspects managed to flee before deputies arrived.

However, thanks to blood evidence left behind by one suspect who was apparently cut during the break-in, evidence was collected and submitted to state crime officials in hopes of a DNA match. Recently the results came back, prompting detectives to secure arrest warrants for the two suspects.

Mackenzie Jones, 37 (DOB: 7/28/1982) and Anthony Kimbell, 38 (DOB 3/26/1981) both of Davenport were arrested Friday in Polk County and taken to the Polk County jail. Bail was set at $25,000 for each suspect. Kimbell has been released; Jones remains in custody.

During the investigation into this burglary, detectives learned two subjects were seen at the Winners Circle hours before the burglary, and appeared to be casing it. One person matched a suspect description from the burglary; that and crime-scene processing led to Jones. Kimbell was positively identified by the DNA match.

Three other DeLand-area burglaries are also under investigation. In each case, the patterns were similar.
