DELAND MAN FATALLY INJURED EXITING MOVING VEHICLE

A 25-year-old DeLand man died late Saturday from injuries he sustained exiting a moving vehicle.

Volusia County sheriff’s deputies responded to the call around 11:09 p.m. on the 3500 block of Aquamarine Drive, DeLand. The driver of the vehicle, a Ford F-250 pickup, told deputies he picked up his cousin, Nicholas Hendershot (DOB 3/15/1994), from a bar in DeLand to drive him home.

The driver said Hendershot was intoxicated, and when they arrived in Hendershot’s neighborhood, Hendershot exited the truck while it was still moving and fell onto the road.

Hendershot was transported to AdventHealth DeLand, where he was pronounced dead.
