Volusia Sheriff's Office Honors Employees' Top Work in 2nd Quarter, 2019

VSO HONORS EMPLOYEES’ TOP WORK FOR 2ND QUARTER 2019
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office honored five employees recently as employees of the second quarter for their outstanding work. In addition, two retiring sworn officers were honored for their contributions to the Sheriff’s Office and community:
--Deputy of the Quarter: Deputy Daniel Berriozabal was recognized for his initiative and diligence while solving numerous crimes in his area, including a vehicle burglary within a fenced car lot, a trailer theft investigation that led to an illegal sale by a juvenile, and his collaboration with his counterparts in the Criminal Investigations Division to investigate 10 car breaks, including one where a firearm was stolen.
--Detective of the Quarter: Detective Timothy Pullin was honored for his tenacity and professionalism in solving three major incidents this quarter. The cases included the armed carjacking of a woman on I-4 that took two years of diligent investigation and culminated in the arrest of a suspect; a series of car breaks where he developed a potential suspect and executed two residential search warrants, resulting in three suspects being arrested; and his investigation and arrest of a suspect in a rash of lottery thefts from businesses.
--Employee of the Quarter: Management Specialist Lindsey Campbell was recognized as a model crime analyst who uses superb investigative and social media skills to help patrol and our detectives solve numerous cases. Her attention to detail, perseverance and commitment enable her to assist various agencies in apprehending fugitives and solving crime trends.
--Telecommunicator of the Quarter: Kathy Chace was honored for her professionalism and calm demeanor under pressure while handling a carjacking call in Deltona. The call, which occurred April 11, 2019, began when an armed man took the victim’s vehicle and led units on a tense trek across the county before he finally pulled over, fired shots from the truck and ran into woods before being taken into custody. Chace consistently updated units with locations of the vehicle as they pursued it and the suspect stuck his arm out the vehicle window and pointed his weapon at them. She is recognized for her proficiency and positive attitude.
--Volunteer of the Quarter: Patricia Lorenz is recognized for her significant contribution to the VCSO’s Inventory Control department in digitizing its records. She spent nearly 500 hours processing 25,000 documents ahead of schedule and is instrumental in working on the annual inventory. She is valued for her assistance and professionalism.
Sheriff Mike Chitwood also promoted Katie Teske to sergeant. She has served as a detective in the Deltona Detective’s and Northwest Detective’s units, Child Exploitation and Internet Crimes Against Children units.
The sheriff also congratulated two longtime members of the Sheriff’s Office who are retiring – Sgt. Greg Miles and Capt. David Brannon.
--Sgt. Miles’ retirement was official June 14, 2019, after serving 25 years. He was promoted to sergeant in 1997. He received nine letters of commendation, a Commendation Bar for his actions during a 1997 tornado in New Smyrna Beach and was named Deputy of the Quarter 2010.
--Capt. Brannon’s retirement was official July 5, 2019 after also serving 25 years. He was promoted to sergeant in 1999, lieutenant in 2003 and captain in 2006. He received 15 letters of commendation and numerous awards for his service.
