1 ARRESTED, 1 WANTED IN RECENT DELAND ARMED ROBBERY

Volusia Sheriff’s detectives announced today that an 18-year-old suspect from Lake County has been arrested in an armed robbery that occurred Sept. 18 at a DeLand convenience store.

Thanks to anonymous tips and investigative resources, Jonathan David Rodriguez, 18, and Darious Lamonte Lovette, 17, were developed as persons of interest in the armed robbery that took place just after 1 a.m. at the Kangaroo Express, 2185 W. New York Ave. This week, detectives learned Rodriguez was arrested in Lake County for his role in an armed carjacking in Polk County.

Our detectives went to Lake County and interviewed Rodriguez, who confessed to his part in the Kangaroo store robbery. Rodriguez (DOB 04/19/2001) remains in custody in Lake County on several charges. He is being held on $25,000 for the Kangaroo case.

A warrant has been issued for the second suspect, (shown at left) Lovette (DOB 03/30/2002), whose address is listed in Groveland, in Lake County. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Sheriff’s Office Needs Public’s Help to Find Pair

Sheriff’s detectives are investigating an armed robbery that occurred early today at the Circle K gas station at 2185 W. New York Ave., in DeLand. 

Two unknown, possibly male suspects carrying firearms entered the store just after 1 a.m. and demanded money from the store clerk.

The suspects wore gloves, hoodie jackets and long pants. Both wore black masks covering their faces. The suspects took an undetermined amount of cash.

In addition, the suspects took other items from the store. The suspects then fled in a silver Jeep SUV.

Anyone with information about this robbery or the two suspects involved is urged to call the Volusia Sheriff’s Office District 2 office at (386) 943-7866 and ask for Detective Gordon, regarding case #19-19991.
