VIDEO: Body Camera Captures Spruce Creek High School Trespassing Incident

BODY CAMERA CAPTURES SPRUCE CREEK HIGH SCHOOL TRESPASSING INCIDENT

Body camera footage from the school resource deputy who responded to Friday’s trespassing incident at Spruce Creek High School has been posted on YouTube and Facebook.

Derek Marlowe, 51 (DOB 2/13/1968), of Daytona Beach, was taken into custody and charged with trespassing on school grounds, campus disruption and disorderly conduct. The School District is reviewing the multiple lapses in campus security that allowed Marlowe to trespass on school grounds and enter a classroom while class was in session. The school resource deputy responded immediately when he was alerted of Marlowe’s presence in the school.

Spruce Creek High Security Breach

DELAND — A lapse in security occurred at Spruce Creek High School on September 27, 2019. A man, with no business at the school passed the gate and entered a classroom. Security protocols were not followed. The Volusia County Schools Safety and Security team is carefully reviewing the incident with law enforcement and will better secure the campus to make sure all security protocols are followed.
