MAN KILLED IN FALL FROM ORMOND BEACHFRONT CONDO BUILDING

A contractor reportedly working on storm shutters at an oceanfront Ormond Beach-area condominium was killed this morning when he fell from the building.

Deputies responded to a 911 call about the fall just after 10 a.m. at the Aquarius Oceanfront Condo, 1575 Ocean Shore Blvd. The 911 caller told a Volusia Sheriff’s Office telecommunicator that the man fell from as high as 10 stories.

The initial investigation indicates the man was working on storm shutters outside the 8th floor of the building when he fell. While it appears he was harnessed to an object at the top of the building, the harnessing equipment also fell to the ground.

There are no criminal charges pending at this time; the Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the fall, which appears to have been a tragic accident.

Identifying information of the deceased is not being released pending official notification of next of kin. No additional information is available for release at this time but will be provided in a future update.
