DELTONA MAN ARRESTED FOR LEWD ACTS IN FRONT OF MIDDLE SCHOOL CHEERLEADERS

A 22-year-old Deltona man is in custody on charges of lewd and lascivious exhibition after he exposed and stimulated himself in front of two Galaxy Middle School cheerleaders handing out candy canes in the school pick-up and drop-off loop today.

Steven Lopez Cortina (DOB 9/11/1997) was taken into custody at his home without incident following the roughly 9 a.m. incident on the school campus. He is charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious exhibition, one count for each victim, each a 13-year-old girl.
The girls were handing out candy canes for the holidays when Lopez Cortina approached driving his car with the passenger side window down. The girls thought he wanted a candy cane but soon realized he was exposing himself. The girls immediately notified school staff and Lopez Cortina drove away.
Responding deputies and detectives worked closely with the two girls, the Volusia County Schools safety and security team and the Volusia County Crime Center to identify and locate Lopez Cortina.
In addition to the two charges from today's incident, Lopez Cortin was charged with violating his probation from a prior case, which also involved a charge of exposure of sexual organs.
