ORMOND MAN CHARGED WITH SEXUAL BATTERY OF TEENAGE GIRL

An Ormond Beach man is charged with the sexual battery of a 16-year-old girl who knew him as a family friend.

George A. Rowe, 51 (DOB 4/23/1968), of Myrtle Jo Drive, Ormond Beach, was arrested Wednesday and is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $175,000 bond. In addition to sexual battery, he is charged with transmission of material harmful to minors by electronic device.

Sheriff’s detectives responded on New Year’s Eve after the victim reported Rowe had sexually abused her for the past several months. The victim provided specific details of the abuse, which detectives were able to corroborate through text and photo messages exchanged with Rowe.

The victim’s family indicated she has a learning disability and may not have the same mental state as others her age.

While no other victims have been identified, the Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate in case Rowe abused anyone else. Anyone who has information about this case or other potential victims is asked to contact the Child Exploitation Unit at 386-323-3574.
