DELTONA MAN INJURED IN SHOOTING DURING DOMESTIC ALTERCATION

A Deltona man was shot in the leg by his girlfriend’s son during a domestic altercation Thursday night. His injury was not life-threatening.

The incident was reported shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday at 1312 Saxon Blvd., Deltona. Responding deputies learned 40-year-old Jesus Machuca had been in an altercation with his girlfriend and pushed her, causing her to fall into a tree. Her two sons witnessed the altercation and intervened. One of them, 20-year-old Nelson Borrero (DOB 10/30/1999), fired a shot into Machuca’s upper leg.

Borrero was arrested on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, simple battery and violation of probation. His brother Simon Velez, 22 (DOB 9/2/1997), was charged with principal to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and simple battery. Both were in custody without bond this morning at the Volusia County Branch Jail.

Machuca was transported in stable condition to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford. At the hospital, he was arrested by Sanford police on an open warrant out of Polk County, and the Volusia Sheriff’s Office is also charging him with domestic battery for pushing his girlfriend into the tree.
