OVERDOSE SUSPECTED IN DEATH AT CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the apparent overdose death of a woman in custody at the Volusia County Correctional Facility.

Tina M. Giovino, 41 (DOB 6/23/1978), was found unresponsive in her cell around 4:25 a.m. Monday. She was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, where she was pronounced deceased around 5:30 a.m.

While Giovino’s cause of death will be determined by an autopsy, the circumstances and the evidence gathered so far appear consistent with a drug overdose. The investigation is active and no further information is available for release at this time.
