OFF-DUTY DEPUTY ARRESTED ON DUI CHARGE

An off-duty Volusia sheriff’s deputy was charged with driving under the influence after a traffic stop this weekend in DeLand.

The deputy, 33-year-old Aaron Chavez, was arrested early Saturday after deputies responded to calls reporting a driver failing to maintain a lane on Spring Garden Avenue near Mercers Fernery Road.

Chavez was placed under arrest without incident by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office for driving under the influence.

Chavez has been administratively suspended and will be reassigned to non-law-enforcement function pending the outcome of his case and a subsequent Internal Affairs investigation.
