Attention, motorists: This week, we received a report of an unusual traffic stop involving a suspicious person driving a white Ford car with blue strobe lights.

On Monday, a Sanford woman reported being pulled over on Saxon Boulevard on top of the Interstate 4 overpass just before noon by this subject. As soon as she reached the overpass, the vehicle activated its blue lights, which appeared to look like a real patrol vehicle, and she pulled over.

The male asked for her driver’s license and registration, which she provided. The male asked if she was “an essential employee” and told her to exit her vehicle, which she did He told her to stand between her vehicle and his vehicle. He asked if he could search her vehicle and she said yes. She repeatedly asked him what she had done to be pulled over, and he refused to answer.

While the male searched her vehicle, the victim made a phone call. As the phone call was in progress over her vehicle’s speakers via Bluetooth, the suspect stopped searching the vehicle, returned her license and registration and allowed her to leave.

The victim reported the incident to our District 4 deputies in Deltona. The suspect was described as a black male, 6 feet tall, weighing 230 pounds with short black hair wearing black sunglasses. He wore a black short-sleeved shirt, black pants, a black belt with a silver buckle, and a badge handing from a silver bead chain around his neck. He did not wear a gun, police radio or other law enforcement equipment.

Out of an abundance of caution, we’re just asking you to be aware of this type of activity and report any similar incidents to law enforcement. Always pull over in a safe, well-lit area, and if the person pulling you over is not able to property identify him/herself as a law enforcement officer, call 911.
