DELAND MAN, 30, CHARGED WITH DV BATTERY
Girlfriend Reports Shots Fired as She Flees With Their 2 Children in Car

Sheriff’s detectives arrested a 30-year-old DeLand man today on domestic violence charges, hours after he punched his girlfriend in the face and she reported someone shooting at her vehicle as she fled with their two daughters.

The incident occurred at about 1:15 a.m. today when the girlfriend drove to a residence in the 1200 block of South Delaware Avenue in DeLand, where Tajh Curry (DOB 01/03/1990), and father of the children, was located.

The woman drove into the driveway, then Curry approached her driver’s side window and they began arguing. Curry punched the woman in the face with a closed fist. As she rolled up her window and prepared to flee, Curry punched the vehicle window, breaking it.

The victim drove toward Orange City, then realized someone was following her in a passenger vehicle. The driver suddenly began shooting at her vehicle, striking it multiple times.

The woman then accelerated, striking the median on U.S. 17-92 and damaging her vehicle. That’s when deputies conducted a traffic stop after observing her driving recklessly and she stated what had happened. No additional injuries were reported by the woman or her children, ages 9 and 4.

Curry was arrested this afternoon after he was spotted at the home on South Delaware Avenue. He is charged with burglary with battery and simple battery. He is being transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail where he will remain held without bond.

This investigation remains active as detectives continue to investigate the shooting aspect. More information will be released when it becomes available.
