VSO Detectives Seek Info in Deltona Armed Robbery
1 Suspect Arrested; Public’s Help Sought for 2nd Suspect

Volusia sheriff’s detectives are searching for information about an armed robbery that occurred in a Deltona neighborhood Wednesday after the male victim was robbed at gunpoint of cash and his wallet.

The victim told detectives he was walking in the area of Ascot Lane and Tartan Avenue just before 5 p.m. Wednesday when two men approached him. One suspect demanded the victim’s money; the second suspect, wearing a COVID-19-style facemask, lifted his shirt to display a handgun tucked into his waistband.

The victim gave the men his money and wallet and was not injured. The suspects fled in a black passenger car driven by a third male.

One suspect is in custody after the victim recognized him as a previous co-worker. That individual is Spencer LaPoint, 20, (DOB 12/30/1999), who was arrested soon after at his Deltona home. He is charged with robbery with a firearm and remains at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $25,000 bail.

We need the public’s help to identify the other suspect in this robbery. Anyone who observed anything regarding this incident or knows those involved is urged to call the Deltona Detectives Unit at 386-860-7030 in reference to Case # 20-8920.

Or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers of Northeast Volusia at 1-888-277-8477 (TIPS) or via online at NEFCrimestoppers.com and you may receive a cash reward.
