Suspect, 55, is Known Sex Offender

Volusia sheriff’s detectives have arrested a DeLand man who is a known sex offender and charged him with possessing child pornography.

Alton Jones, 55 (DOB 04/10/1965) was arrested Tuesday on a warrant by members of the agency’s District 2 Crime Suppression Team.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office’s Child Exploitation Unit began investigating Jones in late May. This week, an arrest warrant was issued after forensics were completed on an electronic device belonging to Jones.

He was arrested and transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail where he remains held on $40,000 bail. He is charged with three counts of possession of sexual performance by a child and use of a two-way communication device to commit a felony.
