7-year-old dies after being pulled from backyard pool in Deltona

A 7-year-old girl passed away after she was pulled from a backyard pool Saturday in Deltona. 

Deputies responded to the residence in the 2200 block of Harding Circle around 9:30 p.m. 

The girl’s adoptive mother told detectives she instructed the child, who has several medical conditions including epilepsy, to exit the pool after her lips started to turn blue which in the past has indicated a seizure was about to happen. 

The girl’s mom told the girl to sit on the outdoor couch while she went inside to tend to her other child. Minutes later, she told detectives the girl was found in the bottom of the pool in the deep end. 

Family members performed CPR until deputies and firefighters arrived and took over. Sadly, the girl was pronounced dead at Advent Health Orange City. 

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office sends its condolences to the family following this tragedy.
