A Daytona Beach personal trainer has been arrested on more than 100 felony charges including voyeurism and possession of child pornography following a VSO investigation into his secret recordings of a roommate.

David Lee Van Moorsel, 28, DeLand, was arrested Tuesday on 40 counts of digital voyeurism, 40 counts of unlawful use of a 2-way communications device, and 30 counts of possession of child porn, which was discovered during the investigation.

Detectives began the investigation on June 16 after Van Moorsel’s ex-girlfriend reported he had been secretly recording their female roommate in compromising situations over the course of 2 years. The ex-girlfriend discovered Van Moorsel was distributing nude images and videos of her roommate to others online. She also discovered cameras in a bathroom and another on a bedroom bookshelf.

After seizing Van Moorsel’s cell phones, detectives discovered numerous voyeuristic videos of the roommate as well as online communications about sharing and trading voyeur content.

Also found on Van Moorsel’s phone were numerous videos of women working out at Gold’s Gym in Daytona Beach, where Van Moorsel worked as a personal trainer. The videos were taken in public areas of the gym and did not violate Florida law.

Van Moorsel’s criminal history includes a prior arrest and conviction for sexual assault in Montana, where he was charged with touching a 13-year-old relative, and also accused of watching another 13-year-old female in the shower.

VSO detectives also notified the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office of evidence from Van Moorsel’s phone that indicates potential crimes in their jurisdiction.

Van Moorsel is being held in the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bond as of this post.
