DeLand woman charged with Vehicular Manslaughter for 2024 crash

A 19-year-old DeLand woman has been charged with Vehicular Manslaughter for her role in a fatal crash last August.

VSO deputies took Briannah Ortiz (DOB: 03/29/2006) into custody Wednesday night.

On August 3rd, 2024, Ortiz was driving a 2018 Nissan Sentra in the 2600 block of Howland Boulevard shortly after 2 a.m. when she crashed into a concrete power pole, resulting in the death of the front passenger, a 33-year-old Deltona woman.

The investigation has been completed and revealed Ortiz was driving recklessly. Ortiz was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail and is being held on a $50,000 bond.
