Drowning claims life of Port Orange woman, 73

A 73-year-old Port Orange woman has died due to accidental drowning in her home's swimming pool.

Deputies responded to the home on Springwater Lane, Port Orange, around 6:15 p.m. Monday after the victim's husband found her alone and unresponsive in the deep end of the pool, pulled her out and called 911.

There were no suspicious circumstances observed during the investigation, and detectives reviewed video surveillance that captured the incident and confirmed what occurred. The victim had a history of medical issues and was known to use the swimming pool for water aerobics.

The Sheriff's Office sends its sincere condolences to this grieving husband and family for their loss.
