A Deltona motorcyclist was killed Sunday evening when he collided with a minibike in a residential neighborhood.
Deputies responded to the crash at Utah Drive and Captain Drive around 6:45 p.m. Sunday. The motorcyclist, a 32-year-old Deltona man, was pronounced deceased on scene. The minibike rider, a 17-year-old from Massachusetts visiting family in Deltona, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries that were evaluated as non-life-threatening.
The initial crash investigation indicates the Coleman CT200U minibike was southbound on Utah Drive, while the 2024 Suzuki motorcycle was westbound on Captain. The minibike stopped at the intersection, then failed to yield to the motorcycle and crossed into its path on Captain, causing a T-bone collision.
Both riders were ejected from their bikes. The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries despite wearing a helmet.
The Coleman minibike was unregistered, had no lights affixed, and was not street legal. The 17-year-old operator does not hold a driver’s license. Charges are pending the completion of the full crash investigation.
