Structure fire in Pierson claims life of resident

A large structure fire in Pierson took the life of one person on Sunday morning. 

Volusia County firefighters responded to a structure fire reported around 8:30 a.m. Sunday at 481 N. Shell Harbor Road, Pierson. 

After the fire was extinguished, a deceased person was found inside the structure. He was tentatively identified as the 69-year-old male resident of the property; official confirmation of his ID is pending.

There were also two deceased dogs found on the property.

The structure was completely destroyed by the fire. There were no immediate indications of any suspicious circumstances. The cause of the fire will be determined by investigators from the Florida Bureau of Fire, Arson & Explosives Investigations. 

The Sheriff's Office sends condolences to family and friends of the deceased.
