Date Added: May 25, 2025 8:43 am

IN CUSTODY: Detectives have identified and arrested Travis Fowler, 25, in the DeLand shooting that injured a 16-year-old passerby this weekend.

Fowler is charged with attempted murder, 2 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and providing false information to law enforcement.

Detectives tracked him down using video surveillance footage, a gas station transaction, and other evidence.

Video cameras in the area of the shooting outside 1757 N. Woodland Blvd. showed Fowler firing at another subject after an altercation. The bullet traveled into a passing vehicle, striking a 16-year-old passenger in the head as he rode home from a graduation party with his family.

After finding video of the shooting, detectives backtracked and found additional video of Fowler and two others at a nearby gas station. The group could be heard arguing over money. Fowler used his EBT card to pay for items, which helped detectives confirm his identity.

Fowler, who lives in an apartment at the scene, and who has a suspended driver's license, was arrested Wednesday night after deputies spotted him leaving his apartment complex driving a car with an incorrect tag.

Fowler told detectives he was in Orlando the night of the shooting. Then he was shown the video footage placing him in the DeLand gas station just before the shooting. He is being held without bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail.

The 16-year-old victim is continuing to recover from his injury.

Volusia Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating two separate shooting incidents that occurred overnight in Deltona and DeLand.

No one was injured in the first incident, reported just before midnight at a house on Kings Ridge Terrace in Deltona. The resident reported he was outside his house when a subject approached him and pulled a gun on him. The resident retreated into the house and locked the door. A second subject reportedly fired at least one shot at the residence from the street before both subjects left the scene.

The second shooting incident was reported around 12:30 a.m. in front of 1757 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand. A passing driver reported hearing several gunshots, followed by the shattering of his vehicle’s rear window. A 16-year-old passenger in the back seat realized he had a graze wound to his head. He was transported to the hospital, where he was later listed in stable condition with injuries classified as minor. The initial investigation of the shooting indicates it occurred between two people on foot in the parking lot of 1757 N. Woodland.

Detectives are pursuing leads in both cases, and updates will be provided as the investigations allow.
