Civilian Firearm Safety Course

The Civilian Firearm Safety Course is a state certified course run at the department range by certified instructors. The classes are provided for civilians wishing to become more familiar with their firearm or needing the required class for a concealed firearms permit. The classes are FREE and are held on a quarterly basis. You must be at least 18 years of age to participate. You must also possess a firearm prior to submitting your application so that a weapons background check can be completed. You must submit and we must receive your application at least one week prior to the class date. Please note: Use of the Sig Sauer P320 is prohibited on all Volusia Sheriff's Office firearms ranges.

Remaining 2025 Dates for the Civilian Firearms Course:

  • Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025: 8 a.m. (FULL)

  • Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025: 8 a.m.
