While deputies were in briefing, Deputy Blackwell received an alert from Flock Safety regarding a confirmed stolen vehicle. The information was immediately disseminated, prompting units from Air 1, District 4, K-9, New Smyrna Beach Police Department, and Port Orange Police Department to begin a coordinated BOLO.

Deputy Blackwell provided real-time updates as new information came in, allowing Port Orange officers to quickly locate the vehicle. A joint felony stop was conducted, resulting in the successful apprehension of the driver.

The suspect, who was operating the stolen vehicle, was taken into custody without incident. The individual was found to have an active felony warrant (260013213) for violation of probation related to a burglary with battery/assault. The suspect—currently on probation—was additionally charged with Violation of Probation, a new law violation for possession of the stolen vehicle (260013212) and for driving with a suspended license in connection with the stolen vehicle case (260013209).

T/L- 06/20/2026.  Prior to crashing their (D1's) vehicle and being arrested for DUI, and other applicable offenses (see VSO 26-13226) D1 spent some time at the LOI committing criminal acts.  Specifically, V1 advised as they (V1) were driving on SR 415, D1 (who was driving their (D1's) vehicle) aggressively approached from behind.  Observing the aggressive driving, V1 pulled off the road to allow D1 to pass.  After passing, D1 stopped his (D1's) vehicle to block V1's car and begin a verbal altercation.  V1 became uncomfortable with D1's aggression and attempted to get back into their (V1's) vehicle.  Before being able to completely re-enter the car, D1 pushed V1's open door onto V1 (hitting V1 in the head and causing a minor injury to their shin).  V1 said D1 also kicked one of V1's vehicle's doors, causing damage estimated to be over $1K.  D1 was arrested for all applicable offenses and taken to VCBJ.

***CRIMINAL MISCHIEF / CASE FILED WITH SAO***

S1, who was on an ankle monitor, walked into the store, asked for a pair of scissors, and cut the device off.  It was learned that S1 is also a suspect in a District 4 DV case and had connections to Brevard County.  Brevard County SO was contacted to conduct ATCs at various addresses with negative results.  A 707 was completed on S1 for cutting off his tracking device.

Earlier in the day, S1 evaded law enforcement after fleeing from D4 and was subsequently spotted by VSO on SR44/Airport Rd. Despite attempts to stop him, S1 continued to flee, prompting Port Orange officers to deploy stop sticks, which S1 ran over. Although a broken string prevented the removal of the stop sticks, resulting in a VSO K9 vehicle also running them over, Lt Mather's deployment effectively disabled the remaining tires. S1 proceeded northbound on I-95 toward Daytona Beach, where he spun out and became stuck near the 259-mile marker.

After abandoning the vehicle, S1 fled on foot into a field along I-95. Law enforcement agencies, including Daytona Beach PD, Port Orange PD, FHP, VSO patrol, CST, and K9 units, saturated the area in search of the suspect. Several callers reported seeing a Black male along I-95 and Beville Rd attempting to get motorists' attention. While S1 was not located, officers discovered a large quantity of crack cocaine and a loaded .38 revolver in the abandoned vehicle.

***POSSIBLE CIVIL ISSUE***

T/L- 06/17/2026.  R1 hired O1 to do a remodel job at the LOI.  In May 2026, R1 gave O1 a $9,000 deposit for materials and there was no end date specified when the job was to be completed.  O1 has been working on the job (although slowly according to R1).  R1 and O1 had a falling out on 06/17 where O1 left the job site and took some flooring epoxy with him (unknown value).  Given the totality of facts and circumstances, this might be a civil issue.

***DEATH INVESTIGATION***

T/L- 06/17/2026.  The decedent, who is believed to be 61 years old and the sole occupant of the LOI (which was a 5th wheel travel trailer) was found deceased inside of the residence as a result of it (the 5th wheel) catching on fire.  The decedent had sustained significant burns to most of the body; however, will still be identifiable through fingerprints.  The Eastside Detective Unit and CSU responded to aid in the investigation.  It was learned that the probable decedent was in poor health, had mobility issues, and was known to fall asleep smoking cigarettes.  The State Fire Marshal responded to aid in the investigation and advised there was nothing outwardly suspicious about the scene.  The ME took jurisdiction and the probable NOK (who provided further identifiable information about the decedent that detectives were able to verify on scene) was notified of the event.
